Bilingual Health Educator (Applications Open)

Job Description: Bilingual Health Educator

Part-Time: 15-20 hours/week

Salary: $14/hr.

Centro Hispano is looking to hire a part-time, bilingual health educator in our Education & Health Promotion Department. We educate in order to empower the community to make goals and plan for their future by preparing for college, a meaningful career, a healthy financial future, and by avoiding behaviors that would prevent them from reaching their goals.

Position activities:

  • Implement evidence based curricula to reduce teen pregnancy and STD/STI transmission risk among adolescents.
  • Recruit parents and youth to participate in youth and parent programing through outreach, working with community partners, and contacting youth and parents individually in a variety of settings.
  • Create monthly newsletter to send out to partners and local stakeholders.
  • Create social media content to promote programing, and healthy life skills.
  • Manage social media accounts for the Education & Health Promotion Department.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as requested by grantors.
  • Represent Centro Hispano in community and partnering agency meetings and events.
  • Assist in providing outreach presentations and building partnerships with community stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing or improving outreach materials for programing in both Spanish and English.
  • Plan semi-annual health fair and other events.
  • Attend health/community fairs hosted by local partners.
  • Assist Education & Health Promotion Department Coordinator with other department and company needs.
  • Collaborate and assist in grant writing and reporting

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
  • Ability and desire to engage and work with at-risk youth and their families.
  • 1-2 years experience working with youth.
  • 6-12 months experience in community education/public health.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with volunteers, community partners, and community members
  • Comfortable with contacting and following up with interested participants over the phone.
  • Outstanding oral and written skills.
  • Comfortable discussing sexual health topics with youth, parents, and community leaders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to consistently follow-through and meet deadlines.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and passionate about the health needs of the community.
  • Ability to work and contribute as part of a team.
  • Willing to adapt to changing circumstances, and make both personal and program improvements where necessary.
  • Flexible schedule; may require evening and weekend hours.
