1) What is Centro Hispano?
Centro Hispano is an educational non-profit that works directly with service organizations in Utah County and the Salt Lake City area to orient, mentor and empower Hispanic immigrants about the resources they can access to strengthen their families and contribute to their adopted community. Centro Hispano also sponsors educational activities in Spanish, the purpose of which is to improve Hispanics' quality of life.
2) What types of educational activities can I find in Centro Hispano?
There are a variety of permanent workshops and clinics offer at Centro Hispano. The most popular are the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, Legal Assessment and Orientation, Domestic Violence therapy and the Micro-business Mentor program. 3) Who provides this clinics or workshops?
Most of the workshops are sponsored by Brigham Young University. Junior or senior BYU students, under the direction of a faculty member, come to Centro Hispano to answer and orient Hispanics. Provo Police officers also answer basic questions about legal issues such as domestic violence. Finally, Latino volunteers with special skills also contribute in some temporary workshops.
4) If I am unemployed, how can Centro Hispano help me find a job?
Centro Hispano works as a bridge between Hispanics in need of employment and over 300 organizations in Utah County and the Salt Lake City area to help find jobs. Centro Hispano might refer you to a work placement organization or to another center that will provide assistance about how to make a
resume, for example. The Centro Hispano's bridge function would let you find assistance in any other issue including violations or discrimination by landlords or employers.
5) What are some of the 300 organizations with whom Centro Hispano works?
United Way, Dixon Middle School, Provo City Library, Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, Community Action, Utah Labor Commission, Police Department, Utah Workforce Services, Utah Legal Services, Health Department, Deseret Industries, Utah Community Credit Union and many others.
